Rise my Nation

The President of Pakistan, Dr Arif Alvi, wrote an inspiring piece in an English daily on 24 May 2022.

Titled “Can passion make a nation rise?”, he pleads that “we must continue our struggle to promote democratic values and establish institutions that incorporate love, compassion, fairness, freedom and equality in society.”

He concludes with a passionate call: “Rise my country as the World awaits you and let not the past drag you down.”

In the fractured polity of Pakistan today, can the President rise above politics and bring all the relevant stakeholders to the presidency to hold a National Dialogue on much-needed new Charter of Governance?

To be or not to be, this is my question to him as the symbol of the unity of the federation.
