New Human Rights Culture

“We are becoming aware of our outdated acceptance of humiliating ways of ordering society, and a new human rights culture is taking shape; the value of each and every human being is being recognised,” writes Donna Hicks in her great book Dignity.

“Among other things, humanity is becoming conscious of the harmful consequences of ranking human worth,” she adds.

In Somebodies and Nobodies: Overcoming the Abuse of Rank, Robert Fuller has exposed how assigning rank to individuals undermines dignity, creating a dangerous distinction between inferior and superior human beings. He has helped us see that it is not acceptable to see oneself as superior or inferior to others.
