A very useful virtual meeting was held on Monday 17 January 2022 with Mark Shaw, Director Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime in Vienna, and Ms Marcena Hunter, Senior Analyst GI TOC in Australia on current regional OC trends and challenges after the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan in August 2021.
Pakistan’s National Security Policy (2022-26) also came under discussion, especially challenges emanating from drug trafficking and organized crime.
In this context, the salient features of the proposed National Strategy against Serious and Organized Crime in Pakistan by the National Initiative against Organized Crime (NIOC) were also highlighted.
The UNTOC Review of Pakistan was also discussed wherein NIOC is in the process of building a coalition of CSOs to support the Government of Pakistan’s Focal Person during the review process.
GI TOC and NIOC will continue to collaborate on various projects and initiatives dealing with the Organized Crimes.
